9 Signs Your Cat is a 'Nip-Head
Has your cat been acting out of character? Has he or she adopted some strange behaviors? It may be time to take a closer look at your cat’s new behaviors; there are many subtle telltale signs that may indicate your cat has a ‘nip problem. Most signs will be behavioral so be sure to pay extra attention to your kitty.
1. Dilated pupils – one of the only physical signs that your cat is abusing catnip
2. Sudden bursts of erratic energy followed by long periods of napping
3. Unusual paranoia, startling more easily than usual
4. Catnip paraphernalia such as various stuffed toys with an unusual smell, empty bottles of Pinot Meow or MosCATo tucked away, catnip stems or seeds etc.
5. Increased clumsiness
6. Sudden interest in going outside, gone for long periods of time possibly escorted by an unfamiliar group of cats
7. Missing money or valuables
8. Keen interest in accompanying you to the pet store
9. Increase in appetite, fixation with food or treats
Although none of these signs alone could indicate a problem, if you find yourself nodding after 3 or 4 of these signs it may be time to have a talk with your cat about catnip. Approach your cat in a non-judgmental manner and emphasize responsible catnip usage.
Assure your cat that you just want to help and the only way you can do that is to open the lines of communication about catnip. Controlled catnip usage can be fun for you and your cat. The best thing you can do is to supply the catnip for them so you know how much they are getting and where it’s coming from.
